Parents

Settling in

When a new child is registered with us and is about to start, we recommend that the child goes through a settling in process to ensure the transition to nursery life is a fun and enjoyable experience. We invite the parents and the child to visit the nursery over three days to settle in. The manager will arrange times and dates with the parents.

The parents can use this opportunity to observe the nursery routine, ask questions, get to know the staff and how the nursery operates.

The staff will also use this period to make an initial assessment of what stage the child’s development has reached. Find out any individual needs they may have e.g., their likes or dislikes and to discuss any special dietary or other requirements.

Once the child is settled into the nursery for the whole day for the parents’ peace of mind, we encourage them to telephone us as often as they wish for the first month or so to see how their child is getting on. By this stage most children have settled in well and getting to know the nursery routine and make new friends.

Communication

We produce a newsletter which keeps parents informed about upcoming events.

We have also set up a WhatsApp group which we use to inform parents on day-to-day matters, and to tell them what activities their children have been doing.

Food and Drink

Fresh food in the form of three healthy meals a day plus snacks (Special diets can be catered for). Please click here to see a sample menu.

Nappies

We use pampers nappies and the wipes we use are fragrance free for sensitive skin.

We also use Sudocrem if required, but parents can bring in their own brand of cream for their child if preferred.

School visits

The transition from nursery to primary school can be daunting for some parents. Also, although many children are excited about going to “big school”, some may also be a little worried about the change. We recognise this at Carville, and therefore arrange to take children to spend a morning with their teacher at their new school. We find this can reduce the nervousness which some children feel about this big change in their lives.

Potty Training

The process that most parents dread with their children is when the time comes to potty train them. Potty training should be an enjoyable experience for both parents and child. Here at Carville, there is no need for parents to worry as we are here to help and advise you. We understand the concerns of parents and will support and advise you every step of the way. We know that potty training is best done without too much fuss and will help you to get through this important and sensitive process. We have an experienced group of staff who have the patience and know-how to make the experience of potty training stress free.

The process of potty training can vary and there is no set time limit. Some children may get the hang of it in days, while for others it could be months.

Knowing when your child is ready to potty train?

Look out for signs such as; when your child is dry after a sleep; telling you when they have soiled their nappy; becoming interested in sitting on the potty or toilet; and pulling off their nappy.

We ask parents to bring lots of spare clothing (such as underwear, socks and trousers) into the nursery as the children will have lots of accidents to start with.
